Hello fellow struggling marketers

It has been quite a journey, this internet marketing  journey of mine that is.  It all started over ten years ago now.  It has zigged and zagged quite a bit and all the while making mere pennies, no where near enough to have the freedom I dreamed of.  I realize where the fault is, with me.  If I had stuck with one idea long enough, things may have improved.  I was impatient, wanted that fast cash etc.

Over the years, I am sure I spent thousands trying to buy the latest greatest software, plan or information that would be my ticket.  Over the years, I could never afford to buy the high end products like coaching programs.  All the programs I had seen were $ 2,000 to $ 5,000.  My credit cards never seemed to have the available credit to get in on those.  I soon convinced myself that if I kept at it, I would figure out what I needed.  All I ever got were small pieces of the puzzle, many of them did not even join with the other pieces I had, too many pieces were missing.

Earlier this year (2010) I was sure the picture was starting to form; but, there were still a few key pieces missing.  By March I realized  “I need help, I need a coach and mentor” .  In April I had the good fortune to be invited to join the  coaching program  of  Alex Jeffreys.   Luckily the program was within my budget, covering topics I was already trying to implement, the other areas I knew I needed more help with, and some really sweet bonuses also.

If you think I am just plugging his program, Alex says this is his last coaching program as he moves on to other areas of internet marketing.  There are however many former students of his who are sharing some of what they have learned.

This blog,  for me is a form of sharing some of what I have learned.  Even though I have not finished the course, I have learned a great deal.  This blog is devoted to helping others solve the great mystery of making a living online.  I realize there is more than one way to make money online and with that I welcome all constructive comments on my blog.

Optimizing for Traffic

Today I did a search for “WP Plugins Traffic” and found Traffic Getting SEO Plugin.

It is available here.

This plugin actually helps the user install several other plugins to improve SEO for the blogger.  To use the plugin you must have your own Word Press Blog and your own hosting as you will need to install the plugins.

There is an upgraded version for a fee, but for now I will give the Free version a go.  It claims to have improved the site’s SEO by 77%.

Time will tell.

Trying to generate traffic to the blog

One of the rules for the contest my coach is running is that we must blog about how we are going about getting our traffic.

First I had to install Google Analytics so that I could measure my traffic and be able to demonstrate how much traffic was recieved during the contest period.  This was a little tricky given the theme I started working with but I believe I got it working soon after I tried to install a second plugin.

The second plugin called Weblink which lists other students blogs and will eventually also list me on other their blogs.   The plugin would not work on the theme I had originally chosen for my blog as that theme had no sidebar to place widget plugins.

After these were in place I began oil-rig hoping which is a term Alex uses to describe visiting other blogs and posting comments.  I realized after my first eight or so, that my comments probably needed more substance to them and the comments I will be leaving from now on will be more substantive.  The blogs I have been oil rig hoping on so far have been fellow students blogs.   I intend to branch out into some higher ranked blogs and post comments on these also.

The Journey begins

Okay here we go …  In my last post I spoke of the coaching program I am a student of.  This week’s lesson was on the importance of blogging to your internet marketing business.   Blogging increases your exposure, creates your brand and most importantly when you are contributing, providing value, it is  a great source of natural traffic.

The coach ended the lesson this week by announcing a competition.  And it is a great one.  It is one of those competitions in which you can only really lose by not trying at all.  You see the winner will be the one who brings in the most traffic to their blog.  Even if you don’t win the prize, you win by putting forth the effort to drive traffic to your site.  (Genius, I tell ya).  The prize for the winner is pretty cool also, a makeover for your blog (mine could definitely use that) as well as a network marketing system.

I will be documenting my efforts to bring traffic to this blog, so the value to my readers is learning from me as I put into practice what I have been taught recently.

So check back often, place your comments (hopefully words of encouragement)  and lets all win together by learning how to drive traffic naturally to a blog.
